FCCU Expansion Joints for PETRONAS RAPID P1 PROJECT, MALAYSIA 

Megaflexon has been awarded to be a main FCCU expansion joint partner for the erection of the biggest petrochemical complex – the PETRONAS RAPID P1 Project in Malaysia.

In oil refinery and petrochemical industry, the FCCU is the most important and critical unit for its main function to convert heavy distillates into lighter ones (gasoline and diesel), improving the yield and efficiency of the refining processes.

The total number of the ordered FCCU expansion joint is 36 sets, ranging from DN 1200mm up to DN 3200mm as follows.

Twelve(12) Tied Universal expansion joint of DN 3200, DN 2900 and DN 2400 
Eight(8) Double Gimbal expansion joint of DN 2900, DN 2400 and DN 1960 
Four(4) Single Gimbal expansion joint of DN 1200 
Twelve(12) Single HInge expansion joint of DN 2900, DN 2400, DN 1960 and DN 1860

All the expansion joints are designed based on the following: 
FCCU cold wall design with refractory lining 2-ply testable bellows Bellows material ASTM B443 Gr. 625 LCF Leak detector on the bellows to check the inner ply’s leak detection Refractory to be installed into 2 parts – straight pipe part Type 2A-C and sleeve liner part Type 3.​
